My name is Veena and I live in London. I’ve got two brothers and a sister. My mum is Indian and my father is English. I speak Hindi- an Indian language- and English. I’m very good at both languages but I use them in different situations.
My mum speaks English very well and so we usually speak English at home. My dad can understand quite a lot of Hindi but he can’t speak it very well. Our general conversation is in English, but my mother and I argue in Hindi!!. I also use Hindi with my Indian grandparents because they don’t speak much English.
I have English and Hindi friends so I use both languages at school. I sometimes teach my English friends the Hindi words for food and clothes. We laugh because they can’t pronounce the words very well. I’m also learning French but I don’t use it very often after school.
